Neutrinos are neutral particles that are famously difficult to detect, since they go straight through most matter without interacting. But detecting them is not impossible: the IceCube Observatory at the South Pole has been collecting them for nearly a decade, by turning a cubic kilometer of natural Antarctic ice into the world's largest instrumented neutrino target. Now this experiment is using neutrinos just as astonomers use light from from the sky... Is there anything out there "shining" with particles?
